Our Programs

We believe a well-rounded education should extend beyond increasing intellect to developing the creative mind and strengthening the body. We provide opportunities for students to experience a world of culture through music and the arts as well as a full athletics program where students not only grow in strength but build important life skills.

Full Day Kindergarten

Our littlest learners participate in a full-day kindergarten program designed to prepare them for the next big step of their education. Our caring teachers establish a strong educational foundation as they teach our kindergartners their ABCs and 123s.

Fine Arts

Students at Port Allegany have the opportunity to participate in general music through their elementary years. We also have an extensive band and choral program available to students beginning in the 7th grade and continuing through high school. For more information, please visit our music department website or contact Mr. Brad Stewart at (814) 642-2544, ext. 221.

Athletics and Co-Curricular

Port Allegany schools offer a full docket of team and individual sports for junior high and high school students. We’re always looking for ways to enrich and improve the athletics experience. In fact, we made history in 2012 with our very first night football game, thanks to a newly lighted field! Please visit our PAHS Athletics page for more information.

In addition, we provide students a diverse range of choices for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Options include Sportsman’s Challenge, student council, foreign language and clubs, yearbook, National Honor Society, Peer Helpers, and academic competitions. You can learn more about these programs by stopping by our PAHS Activities page.

Technology

Our goal to “prepare for the future today” requires that our students have access to and learn using current technology. Our schools are equipped with computers, Internet, and many other technological devices to ensure students are prepared and learn the technical skills required to compete in this Information Age.

Vocational Education

We recognize that our students’ post-secondary goals are as diverse as they are. To meet the needs of all students, we have a variety of advanced or skilled vocational and technical education programs developed to prepare students to effectively pursue profitable employment as well as create a connection with Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. We offer building construction, automotive mechanics, culinary arts, health assistance, heavy equipment maintenance, IT and networking, early childhood education, welding, public safety and security, and metal working occupations.

Dual Enrollment

Port Allegany School District has agreements with both Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to award college credit for coursework completed in certain subjects. For more information regarding dual enrollment registration, tuition, prerequisites, transferability, or matriculation, please contact our high school counseling office at (814) 642-2544.

Federal Programs

Participation in federal programs provides us with funds to implement and support specialized intervention programs for students at risk of not meeting state proficiency standards and to hire and train highly qualified staff to facilitate these programs.

Title I
Title I is a federally-funded supplemental education program designed to help students in K–6 meet state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics. We utilize these federal funds to support smaller classes, hire additional teachers and assistants, and provide extra reading and math instruction using a variety of teaching methods and materials.

Title IIA
Title IIA is a federally-funded program that provides the means to improve teacher skills and quality of instruction. Port Allegany uses its Title IIA funds to maintain small class sizes and offer benefits that will attract highly qualified teachers to our schools.

Special Education
Port Allegany provides a free and appropriate education for all of its students, including those with disabilities and special giftedness. Our special education program works with families to create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the special needs of these students. This plan includes related services in and out of school, at no cost to the family, to compliment the students’ personal instruction and ensure they are receiving the most benefit from their education. For more information, please visit our Student Services page.

Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program

The Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program provides scholarships to eligible students who wish to attend a participating public or non-public school of their choice. Opportunity scholarships are funded by businesses making contributions to scholarship organizations in exchange for a tax credit. The amount of scholarships cannot exceed the amount of business contributions made to scholarship organizations. Even if a student is eligible for a scholarship, that scholarship is contingent upon funds being available.

Virtual Academy

We realize that not all students thrive in a traditional "brick and mortar" setting. The Port Allegany School district has made a commitment to provide an additional instructional model with the addition of our Virtual Academy. The Port Allegany Virtual Academy has gathered the established and dedicated professionals, administrative staff, and resources of the district, and will assist those students and families who choose education through hands-on and online learning. Enrolling in our academy will allow you and your child to receive all of the benefits of a public school education using an instructional style with which you are comfortable.

Classes are currently available. Visit our Virtual Academy page for more information.
